The great inspiration for this project comes from Lucido solar AG company located in Switzerland, which Father Dr. DePaul got to know through the Carlo Marchini Association.
The company has developed a concept to reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated during construction of houses which can be offset within one generation. Reforestation and binding of CO2 in trees is an important component for this project. By studying the causes and effects of global warming, Fr. DePaul is ready to embark on this challenging mission. Although it's a process that is being omitted and ignored by big and many gas-emitting companies in the world, our small action/step is seen as the way to a change of mentality and a dream to bigger actions. We simply need committed companies and serious executors of this program.
18 acres of land was purchased to concretely implement this program. A nursery bed was then setup where only brooding of indigenous and fruit trees is being carried out. About 10.000 seedlings have been raised and 3000 various species of trees have been planted at the land, 2000 have been distributed to families, religious and learning institutions and more are being distributed.
Since the trees that are being planted are environmentally friendly, about 20 families are practicing food production amidst the trees at our land. These families are able to care for our trees not to be chopped by bushes or be destroyed by animals, but at the same time they are able to produce food for themselves and thus reduce on food insecurity among needy families. Local foodstuffs like maize, millet, beans, groundnuts, cassava, carrots, cabbages etc. are being planted using organic methods.
The tree project is much integrated with the school fees project in a way that our school supported beneficiaries also participate in planting trees and learning other methods of environmental education and protection.
